Lobos Open Spring with 10th Place Finish at San Diego State Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The New Mexico women’s golf team concluded its first event of the spring on Tuesday with the final day of play of the San Diego State Classic at The Heights Golf Club. The Lobos shot 25-over during the final 18 holes to finish the event in 10th place at 49-over.

Top-ranked Stanford won the event at 31-under and was the only team to finish under par. UNLV was second at 1-over, while Georgia (12-over), Oregon State (13-over) and BYU (15-over) rounded out the top five.

Freshman Chelsea Truong was the Lobos’ top finisher at the event, finishing T-38th at 12-over after a final round 80. Annie Saechueng and Maria Caparros Levin shot UNM’s best final rounds, each posting a third-round 76 to finish the tournament T-47th at 15-over. Maria Garcia finished the event at 16-over and Rebecca Galasso finished at 18-over.

The Lobos return to action in two weeks with another trip to California for the Bruin/Wave Invitational. The event, hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine, will be Feb. 24-25 in Santa Clarita.
