New Mexico (20-4, 12-1 MW) is leading the Mountain West as it has posted its best-ever start to a Mountain West season. With a win on Wednesday, the Lobos will become just the fifth Mountain West team to start a season 13-1 or better in the conference. Nelly Junior Joseph has won back-to-back Mountain West Player of the Week awards, giving him four for the season, after recording 14 points and a career-high 21 rebounds on Saturday at Air Force.
Wyoming (11-13, 4-9 MW) is coming off three close losses, at San Diego State and home to Utah State and UNLV. The Cowboys are led by Obi Agbim, the conference’s third-leading scorer at 17.6 points per game, who missed the first matchup against the Lobos due to injury.
New Mexico leads the all-time series 81-72, including a 47-25 record in Albuquerque (41-16 in The Pit). The Lobos won the first matchup this season in Laramie, 61-53, as UNM rallied from a 32-18 halftime deficit. Overall, New Mexico has won the last four meetings since the Cowboys’ win at The Pit two seasons ago.
The Lobos will host Utah State on Sunday to conclude the homestand. Game time is 2:00 pm and the game will air on CBS Sports Network. The game is sold out, but tickets are on sale for UNM’s other three remaining home games against Wyoming (Wednesday), Air Force (Mar. 1) and UNLV (Mar. 7) at GoLobos.com/tickets.
