COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The University of New Mexico picked up 92 Mountain West All-Academic honors over the sports of football, women’s soccer, volleyball, and men’s and women’s cross country as league officials announced the fall All-Academic teams. Overall it was part of a record 853 student-athletes named to the Fall 2024 Academic All-Mountain West team.
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and competing in 50 percent of their teams’ completed varsity contests. Some latitude was permitted to accommodate injured student-athletes.
The 92 honorees for UNM is the third-most in program history, behind 106 in the COVID 2020-21 season and in 2021-22 when UNM had 95 honorees. Overall, UNM’s 92 was second to only Fresno State, which had 97 honorees. Last year UNM had 75 in the fall and eventually finished third in the Mountain West.
The Lobos had 17 honorees in women’s cross country, eight in men’s cross county, 39 in football, 18 in soccer and 10 in volleyball. Removing the COVID season, which had different rules UNM’s 17 honorees in women’s cross country is a program record, and the 39 in football is the second-highest behind 45 in 2021-22.
