Mountain West-Leading Lobos Host Colorado State Wednesday for Top-Three Conference Showdown
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The Mountain West-leading New Mexico men’s basketball team returns home on Wednesday night by hosting Colorado State. Game time is 8:30 pm at The Pit and the game will air on FS1.
Tickets for Wednesday’s game are on sale at GoLobos.com/tickets, with tickets in select locations available for $10 off at https://fevo-enterprise.com/event/Lobo23. Gates will open at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday’s game will be UNM’s Black History Month celebration, with the Lobos’ wearing specialty warm-up shirts designed by UNM African American Student Services. There will be a pregame performance of Lift Every Voice and Sing and a halftime performance from the UNM National Pan-Hellenic Council.
New Mexico (18-4, 10-1 MW) is leading the Mountain West as it has posted its best-ever start to a Mountain West season. With a win on Wednesday, the Lobos will become just the eighth Mountain West team to start a season 11-1 or better in the conference. Nelly Junior Joseph is the reigning Mountain West Player of the Week after a 15-point, 13-rebound performance in Saturday’s 82-63 win at Utah State. The award was Joseph’s third of the season, as he joins Donovan Dent (three awards) to make UNM the third program in Mountain West history to have two players win at least three awards in a year.
Colorado State (14-7, 8-2 MW) has won seven of eight since losing at home to New Mexico in Fort Collins on Dec. 28 and are one game back of the Lobos in the loss column. The Rams are led by Nique Clifford, who is averaging 17.7 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
New Mexico leads the all-time series 81-53, including a 52-13 record in Albuquerque (47-6 in The Pit). The Lobos have won the last three matchups, including the first matchup of the season at Moby Arena, as UNM looks to sweep the season series for the first time since 2017-18.
The Lobos will visit Air Force on Saturday before returning home for a pair of games next week, hosting Wyoming (Feb. 12) and Utah State (Feb. 16). Tickets for those games are on sale at GoLobos.com/tickets.
