Lobos Set GPA Records Across The Board
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — For a third consecutive semester, Lobo student-athletes have set a total department GPA record, this semester with a 3.55, a mark which was fueled by records for male student-athletes and female student-athletes. Overall, four programs set records and 10 programs had a top-five program GPA. Additionally, for the first time in school history, every program bettered a 3.0 record for the first time.
For the Fall 2024 semester, Lobo student-athletes recorded a 3.55 GPA, which equals the Spring 2020 COVID semester mark of 3.55. Last semester, Lobo student-athletes recorded a 3.47 GPA which was the highest non-COVID semester GPA in school history. Lobo male student-athletes recorded a record 3.44 GPA, which topped the previous high-mark of 3.44 in the Spring of 2020. The Lobo female student-athletes recorded a non-COVID record 3.69 GPA, a third straight semester in which the female student-athletes set a non-COVID semester record.
The Spring 2020 semester in which campus was closed due to the COVID pandemic used a pass/fail grading system.
The 3.55 marked the 33rd straight semester that Lobo student-athletes turned in at least a 3.0 GPA, dating back to the fall of 2008. Overall, 99 student-athletes recorded a 4.0 or better GPA and 360 recorded a 3.0 or better GPA. Also, the 3.69 GPA for UNM’s female student-athletes marked the 29th straight semester with at least a 3.4 GPA and the 11th straight with a 3.5 GPA
The 3.44 GPA for UNM’s male student-athletes was a record and it was the 25th semester in the last 26 with at least a 3.0 GPA and that GPA was bolstered by a record-setting GPA for the Lobo football team and basketball team. Men’s basketball’s 3.19 GPA also represented the largest improvement for a single program from Spring to Fall for the department.
Ten programs turned in a top-five program GPA, with men’s basketball, football, men’s golf and women’s cross country/track & field setting program records. Men’s golf had the top men’s grade point average at 3.94, narrowly edging men’s tennis which was at 3.90. Women’s golf had the top GPA among the female programs at 3.90, just ahead of women’s soccer and women’s tennis, which had 3.82 GPAs.
