New Mexico (8-3, 1-0 MW) is coming off a 122-70 victory over Western New Mexico on Saturday, posting the program’s most points in a game since 2017-18. Jovan Milicevic scored a game-high 21 points in that game, earning Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors. VCU is led by Oklahoma transfer Joe Bamisile (17.2 ppg) and Utah State transfer Max Shulga (16.5 ppg).
Wednesday’s game is the second all-time meeting between the schools. The Rams won the only previous meeting, a 66-57 win in the 2008-09 Cancun Challenge. New Mexico will travel to Richmond next season to complete the home-and-home series.
After a 10-day holiday break, New Mexico returns to Mountain West play with a pair of road games to close out December, visiting Colorado State on Dec. 28 and Fresno State on Dec. 31. The Lobos return home on Jan. 3 to host Nevada in the 1,000th game in The Pit.
