Jovan Milicevic Named Mountain West Freshman of the Week

by Steve Kirkland

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico’s Jovan Milicevic was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Milicevic was honored after the best game of his career in the Lobos’ 122-70 win over Western New Mexico on Saturday night.

Milicevic’s honor is the Lobos’ first Mountain West Freshman of the Week honor of the season. It is the second weekly honor of the year for UNM, as Nelly Junior Joseph was Mountain West Player of the Week for the opening week of the season.

In the win over the Mustangs, Milicevic posted career highs of 21 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. He made 8-11 shots from the floor, including 3-4 from behind the arc, as he became the first Lobo in over a year to have a 20-point game off the bench. His 21-point effort marks the most points in a game this season for a Mountain West freshman.

The Lobos (8-3) will conclude the non-conference schedule on Wednesday as they host VCU (9-2). The Rams, currently ranked No. 42 nationally in KenPom, are the highest KenPom non-conference opponent to visit The Pit in seven years. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and tickets are on sale now at GoLobos.com/tickets.
