Lobos Host Western New Mexico at 5:00 pm Saturday Night
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The New Mexico men’s basketball team continues a four-game homestand Saturday by hosting Western New Mexico. Game time at The Pit is 5 p.m. (a change from the original schedule), and the contest will air on the Mountain West Network and the Lobo Radio Network.
Tickets are on sale now at GoLobos.com/tickets. Gates will open at 3:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots, with donation boxes located at the main northeast entrance of The Pit.
New Mexico (7-3, 1-0 MW) is looking to rebound from an 89-83 overtime loss to New Mexico State last Saturday that snapped the Lobos’ 23-game regular season non-conference home win streak. UNM was led in the game by Nelly Junior Joseph, who had 16 points and matched a career high with 17 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.
Western New Mexico (2-7) is coming off a 67-60 home victory over the University of the Southwest on Wednesday night. The Mustangs’ leading scorer, Isaiah Marin (12.6 ppg), played for the Lobos in 2020-21, but Saturday night’s contest will be his first at The Pit since UNM played the entire 2020-21 season outside the state of New Mexico.
The Lobos lead the all-time series 20-3, including 9-0 in The Pit. Western New Mexico’s last win in the series came in 1958-59, with UNM having won the last nine contests. This season marks the third meeting in the last four seasons between the schools, as the Lobos defeated the Mustangs 88-63 in 2021-22 and 102-63 in 2022-23.
New Mexico will conclude its non-conference schedule Wednesday by hosting VCU. The Rams (No. 41) will be the first top-50 KenPom opponent to visit The Pit in the non-conference in seven years. Tip-off for that game is 7:00 p.m. and tickets are on sale at GoLobos.com/tickets.
