Mountain West Announces 2025 FB Opponents
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — One year after missing both Mountain West championship game participants in the regular season, the Lobos will travel to both Boise State and UNLV as the Mountain West announced the 2025 opponent grid for all teams. After a seven-game conference season last year due to the league’s scheduling agreement with Washington State and Oregon State, the league has moved back to an eight-game conference schedule.
Overall, the Lobos will face four teams that it played in 2024, including all three teams UNM got wins over last year as the Lobos finished tied for fifth in the league. UNM’s home games feature a pair of teams that UNM defeated in 2024 in San Diego State (UNM beat 21-16) and Utah State (UNM beat 50-45). Utah State is now coached by Bronco Mendenhall, who was coach at New Mexico for exactly one year, leading UNM to a 5-7 year.
The Lobos will also host Colorado State and Nevada. UNM lost to CSU 17-6 in Fort Collins last year, and the Lobos and Nevada did not play last year. CSU went 6-1 in conference play in 2024 and is in the Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl, and Nevada was 0-7.
On the road, UNM will play both Boise State, which is the No. 3 seed in the College Football Playoff and will play in the Fiesta Bowl, and UNLV, which is currently ranked No. 24 and playing in the L.A Bowl. The Lobos will also travel to Air Force, which UNM defeated 52-37, and to San Jose State. UNM and San Jose State also didn’t play last year.
Overall, UNM and Air Force are the two teams that play all three teams that finished 6-1 or better (BSU 7-0, UNLV 6-1, CSU 6-1) and San Jose State misses all three of those teams.
With the naming of the conference opponents, UNM’s 2025 schedule of opponents in now complete. Along with home games with Colorado State, Nevada, San Diego State and Utah State, the Lobos will host Idaho State (September 6) and New Mexico State (September 27). On the road, along with Air Force, Boise State, San Jose State and UNLV, UNM will travel to Michigan (August 30) and UCLA (September 13).
