by Steve Kirkland

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The New Mexico men’s basketball team continues a four-game homestand Saturday night by hosting New Mexico State in this year’s matchup of the Rio Grande Rivalry. Game time at The Pit is 7 p.m., and the contest will air on the Mountain West Network and the Lobo Radio Network.

As of Friday afternoon, approximately 500 tickets remain for the game. Fans are encouraged to buy their tickets now at GoLobos.com/tickets as the game is expected to sell out.

Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and the first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a special rally towel. Saturday’s game is We Are New Mexico Night, with low riders and the Cherry On Top hot air balloon on display outside The Pit pregame.

New Mexico (7-2, 1-0 MW) is coming off an 83-77 win over San Jose State on Wednesday night at The Pit, rallying from 13 points down for the Lobos’ largest comeback in five years. Donovan Dent had 20 points and five assists in the win over the Spartans, his nation-leading fourth 20-and-5 game this season.

New Mexico State (3-5) enters the game on a five-game losing streak after falling to Abilene Christian 78-70 in Las Cruces on Wednesday night. Robert Carpenter leads the Aggies, averaging 12.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.

The Lobos lead the all-time series 125-103, including 39-18 in The Pit. New Mexico won both matchups last season, winning 106-62 in Albuquerque before winning 73-72 in Las Cruces two weeks later. The teams will play once this season and next season, with next year’s contest at the Pan American Center.

New Mexico will return to action the following Saturday as the homestand continues Dec. 14 against Western New Mexico. Tip-off for that game is now 5:00 p.m. (a change from the original schedule) and tickets are on sale at GoLobos.com/tickets.
