Lobos Conclude Homestand Sunday Against Texas Southern
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The New Mexico men’s basketball team concludes a two-game homestand Sunday by hosting Texas Southern at The Pit. The game will tip off at 6:00 p.m. with coverage on the Mountain West Network and the Lobo Radio Network.
Tickets for the contest are on sale now at GoLobos.com/tickets. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. UNM Athletics is collecting food for the RoadRunner Food Bank at the game. Fans can donate non-perishable food items at the main Northeast Entrance to help contribute to a great cause this holiday season.
New Mexico (4-1) is unbeaten at home this season, including an 80-58 victory over Grambling State on Thursday night. Donovan Dent had 22 points and eight assists in that win and is the only Division I player with at least 12 points and six assists in every game this season. Tru Washington had 15 points and matched a career high with five steals.
Texas Southern (1-4) is looking to snap a three-game losing streak after losses at Georgia, Georgia Tech and Samford. The Tigers, picked second behind Grambling State in the preseason SWAC poll, are led by preseason conference defensive player of the year Kenny Hunter.
Sunday’s game is the ninth all-time meeting between the schools, with the Lobos holding a 7-1 edge in the series. New Mexico has won the last four meetings, including a 92-55 victory in last year’s season opener. Texas Southern’s win in The Pit in the 1994 Lobo Classic is the only loss UNM has ever had against a SWAC opponent (29-1).
The Lobos will travel to Palm Springs next week for the Acrisure Classic. New Mexico opens the tournament with a Thanksgiving night matchup with Arizona State (8:30 pm PT on TruTV). The Lobos will play either USC or Saint Mary’s on Friday in either the championship or consolation game.
