Aztecs Snap Lobos' Four-Match Streak on the Road
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – New Mexico Volleyball had its four-match win streak snapped in a straight-sets loss to San Diego State (17-25, 18-25, 17-25) Thursday night as the Aztecs (18-9, 10-7 MW) avenged the Lobos’ five-set win at home in September for their first win over UNM in their last seven tries.
The Lobos (13-14, 6-11 MW) got another efficient double-digit kill performance from Lauryn Payne — who finished with 10 kills on .259 hitting – with five others recording two or more. Kialah Jefferson finished with five kills and five digs to go with an ace, Jada Bouyer added four more, Liepa Lavickyte finished with three on six errorless attempts and Madeleine Miller and Elizabeth Woods both added two each to round things out.
Miller dished out 21 of UNM’s 28 assists while finishing with five digs, her first match in over two weeks in which she didn’t record a double-double.
UNM put away 12 kills and hit .276 in the opening set but was held to 16 kills on .115 hitting the rest of the way as the Aztecs poured it on – they finished with 46 kills to UNM’s 28 while hitting .340 on the match.
