O-Line Using Own NIL to Give Away Turkeys for Thanksgiving

by Frank Mercogliano

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico’s offensive line is one of the best in the nation, blocking for the No. 7 rushing offense in the FBS.  More famously, this offensive line doesn’t give away sacks.

Except Sunday.

On Sunday, the Lobo offensive line is donating their NIL proceeds to help families in need this Thanksgiving by giving away turkeys and fixings.  The drive, coordinated by one of UNM’s captains, Richard Pearce, will take place on Sunday starting at 10 am in front of press tower in the Stadium West parking lot. Families can enter the Stadium West parking lot from University Drive and cars will be directed towards University Stadium. The drive will continue until supplies last.

“The guys on the offensive line just wanted a way to give back to our community this year, and we thought going out and using our NIL money to get turkeys and some fixings to give to families that need it would be a great way to thank the community that has been so great to our team,” said Pearce.

The offensive line would love to help as many families as possible, and Lobo fans can now help extend that reach.  Fans that want to join the offensive line can donate any amount to help the offensive line purchase even more turkeys, canned goods and fixings in order to help as many families as possible.  The line has a goal to help at least 100 families, but now Lobo fans can join in and help the O-Line extend that generosity.

The Lobos, with an all-new offensive line, features one of the best offenses in the nation, and UNM has won five of its last seven to set up a win-and-in bowl scenario on November 30 at Hawai’i.  The Lobos have a bye this weekend, coming off a historic 38-35 home win over No. 18 Washington State.
