TULSA, Okla. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team concluded its fall season on Tuesday with the final round of The Clerico at Oaks Country Club. The Lobos shot 9-over during the third round, the third-best round of the day, to climb from eighth place to a tie for fifth place.
Northwestern took the title with a 12-over total, eight shots ahead of host Oral Roberts (20-over). Duke was third at 25-over, UTEP was fourth at 27-over, while the Lobos tied Little Rock and Santa Clara for fifth at 35-over.
Wyatt Provence shot the low round of the day for the Lobos on Tuesday, using two late birdies to post a 1-under 69 to finish the tournament at 10-over. Mesa Falleur, playing in his home state, was UNM’s top individual finisher at T-14th, using a final round 70 to finish at 7-over. Carson Herron also had a top-20, shooting a final round 74 to finish T-17th at 9-over. Clark Sonnenberg shot 76 in the final round, while Alvaro Portillo rounded out the lineup with a 78 on Tuesday.
The Lobos will begin the spring season Feb. 3-4 with the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
