Lobos Draw with Tigers to Close Road Trip

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Lobos picked up their fourth point of the week as their road trip came to an end in a scoreless draw at Colorado College Sunday afternoon.

The Lobos created their first scoring chance in the fifth minute, after a UNM throw in near midfield led to Morgan Juran kicking the ball in front of the goal and a close-range shot by Presley Devey that was stopped by the keeper followed by an Natalie DeGagne shot that went high left.

A corner kick in the 21st minute resulted in a good opportunity for the Lobos on a cross into the box by Sophia Roberts, but was headed wide by Taryn Robles.

The defense was called on to withstand the Tiger pressure in the first 45 minutes as Colorado College took eight corner kicks with the Lobos eliminating every threat with the Tigers also leading 8-3 in shots, 2-1 in shots on goal.

CC’s first corner kick of the second half in the 51st minute was brought in by Callie Droitsch, who boomed the ball nearly the length of the field with Roberts unable to track it down before the Tiger keeper corralled it.

UNM put together several shots an hour into the match with a shot by Fiona Jenkins in the 60th minute that went just outside the left post, a free kick in the 61st minute that led to a missed header by DeGagne and a shot by Devey in the 64th minute that was wide and high.

A Lobo foul caused a Tiger free kick in the 79th minute outside the right corner of the box, with Droitsch punching it out and the ball eventually being cleared.

Devey provided UNM’s last chance in the match with a shot on target from the left corner edge of the box in the 85th minute, forcing the Tiger goalie to react and jump to make the save. Devey accounted for both of UNM’s shots on goal and three of UNM’s seven shots in the match.

Droitsch faced 15 shots, four on goal and recorded her fifth shutout of the season.

UNM moves to 6-4-3 on the season, 2-3-1 in conference ahead of two home matches against Fresno State (Thursday at 7:30 p.m.) and San José State (Sunday at 1:30 p.m.)
