Lobos Close Out Road Trip at Colorado College Sunday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Lobos conclude their four-match road trip on Sunday at Colorado College at 1 p.m. on the Mountain West Network.

UNM is coming off of a 2-1 win at Air Force on Thursday, after Alysa Whelchel scored the game-winning goal with 2:36 left to enter Sunday’s match at 6-4-2, 2-3-0 in the conference. The Tigers are 5-7-2, 1-3-1 in the Mountain West following a 0-0 draw against San Diego State on Thursday.

The Tigers shared one common non-conference opponent with the Lobos in UC Santa Barbara, with Colorado College winning 3-2.

SERIES vs. COLORADO COLLEGE
The Lobos are 11-9-0 all-time against the Tigers, 5-4-0 in road matches. UNM is 8-3-0, 4-1-0 under Coach Dyche.

Colorado College won the last two meetings, 2-1 in Albuquerque and 3-0 in Colorado Springs, which snapped a seven-match win streak for the Lobos that spanned from 10/15/17 to 10/21/21.

When it comes to goals, the series is nearly even with UNM holding a 27-25 advantage, however, the Tigers have the 9-7 edge in matches played in Colorado.

The Lobos are 7-4 in one-goal matches and the Lobos have shutout the Tigers six times in the series, while the Tigers have shutout the Lobos seven times in the series.

UNM’s last win on the road in the series was a 1-0 win on 4/4/21 with the most goals scored being five goals on 3/19/21 at home.

OCTOBER ROAD
The Lobos have six road contests in the month of October, starting with four to Boise State, Utah State, Air Force and Colorado College. The Lobos return to Albuquerque to host Fresno State and San José State before heading back on the road to Colorado State and Wyoming. UNM closes the conference schedule at home against San Diego State on Oct. 31, meaning the Lobos have six road matches and three home matches in the final month of the MW schedule.

Presley Devey has scored the game-winning goal in three matches (UCR, Oregon, San Diego), Ellie Robinson in one (UTEP), Nicole Anderson in one (Nevada) and Alysa Whelchel in one (Air Force).

Natalie DeGagne has recorded an assist in three matches and has a point in six matches this season with a goal in the season opener and in two of the last three matches (Boise State and Air Force).

The Lobos have used six different lineup variations this season, including the same lineup in the last three and four of the last five matches.

Four Lobos have played over 90% of the minutes this season: Kennedy Brown (1003’), Fiona Jenkins (1021’), DeGagne (1010’) and Callie Droitsch (1079’) with six playing over 900 minutes.

Six Lobos have started all 12 matches this season: Devey, DeGagne, Nicole Anderson, Brown, Jenkins, and Droitsch.

UNM had six players play the full 90 against Boise State: Droitsch, Jenkins, Ashley Moody, DeGagne, Taryn Robles and Brown. Five players went the fulltime at Utah State: Droitsch, Jenkins, Moody, DeGagne and Robles and five played the full 90 at Air Force: Droitsch, Jenkins, Moody, Robles and Brown.

 

 

THE WINNING RECIPE
In four of UNM’s wins, the Lobos scored first in the match and have held a lead at the break. Only in the UTEP and Air Force matches did the Lobos have to come from behind.

In addition, the Lobos have outshot opponents 52-24 in the first 45 minutes and 48-41 in the second 45 minutes for a 100-65 edge (16.7-10.8 average) in shots in the six wins.

When it comes to shots on goal, the Lobos have outshot their opponents 43-21 in that category.

UNM led for 79:08 in the match against UCR, 84:12 in the match against Oregon, 84:38 against San Diego and 85:49 against Nevada, for a total of 333:47. In the win at Air Force, UNM led for only 2:36.

In both the Oregon and San Diego matches, the Lobos scored in the first six minutes with Alysa Whelchel scoring at 5:48 against the Ducks and Presley Devey scoring at 5:22 against USD. Devey also added another goal against Oregon at 9:10, a goal against UC Riverside at 10:52 and scored two in the first six minutes against Nevada, meaning six goals scored in the first 11 minutes of the matches.

Callie Droitsch allowed two goals during the six-match unbeaten streak with four clean sheets, making 15 saves, including a career-best six in the match against NAU.

In UNM’s wins, Devey has scored six goals with two assists for 14 points, Nicole Anderson has scored four goals, Alysa Whelchel two goals and Ellie Robinson scored one.

UNM has surpassed its win total from last season with at least six matches left to play.
