Lobo Men’s and Women’s Golf Ready for Inaugural NB3 Match Play
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico men’s and women’s golf teams will compete on a national stage this week with the inaugural NB3 Match Play at Twin Warriors. The tournament, hosted by Notah Begay III and the Pueblo of Santa Ana, will be held Tuesday and Wednesday and consist of four schools competing in the newest event of Golf Channel’s fall collegiate golf schedule. The setting of scenic Twin Warriors Golf Club, just north of Albuquerque, and the backdrop of the International Balloon Fiesta will showcase New Mexico to a national television audience.
The tournament features the men’s and women’s teams from New Mexico, New Mexico State, Stanford and Texas. Over the two days, the teams will compete in a round robin match play format in which each team plays the other three teams. A total of five points will be available in each match and the winners on both the men’s and women’s sides will be determined by total points won. In addition, an overall University champion will also be determined by the cumulative total of both the men’s and women’s points. There will be plenty of intense action in every match where a single point could make the difference.
Tuesday morning’s matches, beginning at 7:30 am, will be New Mexico vs. Stanford and Texas vs. New Mexico State. The Tuesday afternoon matches are New Mexico vs. Texas and Stanford vs. New Mexico State. Wednesday’s matches, starting at 11 a.m., will be New Mexico vs. New Mexico State and Stanford vs. Texas.
Golf Channel will broadcast the event live on both days, with coverage also available on Peacock. Fans around the nation can watch from 5:30-8:30 pm ET (3:30-6:30 pm MT) on Oct. 8 and from 4:30-7:30 pm ET (2:30-5:30 pm MT) on Oct. 9.
Playing for the Lobos on the men’s side are Mesa Falleur, Carson Herron, Alvaro Portillo, Wyatt Provence and Clark Sonnenberg. The women’s team will have a lineup consisting of Maria Caparros Levin, Rebecca Galasso, Maria Garcia, Ciara Rushmer, Annie Saechueng and Chelsea Truong.
