Penalty Kick the Difference in Loss to No. 12 Utah State

by Allison Weiss

LOGAN, Utah— No. 12 Utah State scored on a penalty kick set up by a handball in the 57th minute for the only goal of Sunday’s Mountain West contest.

Of note, it is the second straight match against a ranked opponent that ended in a 1-0 loss, with the last instance against No. 22 Texas Tech in 2022.

The Lobos were limited to three shots in the contest, all on goal and all in the final 45 minutes, from Margaux Clarke at 62:16, Fiona Jenkins at 69:33 and Morgan Juran at 83:14, whereas the Aggies took 25 shots in the match with six on goal.

Callie Droitsch made five saves in the match, matching her save total from last match at Boise State and one shy of her career high set this season at Northern Arizona.

Up next: the Lobos (5-4-2, 1-3-0 MW) head back on the road to Air Force and Colorado College before two home matches against Fresno State and San José State.
