Garcia Earns First Career Top-Five at Ron Moore Intercollegiate
HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. – The New Mexico women’s golf team concluded play Sunday at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate with the final round at the University of Denver Golf Course at Highlands Ranch. The Lobos shot 12-over during the Sunday’s round to finish in 13th place at 25-over.
UNLV won the team title at 17-under, one shot ahead of Kansas State (16-under). Colorado (3-under) was the only other team to finish under par, while Minnesota (even) and host Denver (1-over) rounded out the top five.
Maria Garcia capped the best performance of her young career, shooting a final round 1-under 71 to finish T-5th at 5-under. It was the freshman’s first career top-five and her second top-10 in three events.
Annie Saechueng and Maria Caparros Levin each shot 76 on Sunday, while Chelsea Truong shot 77. Rebecca Galasso rounded out the lineup with a final round 79.
“Maria had another solid round and led us again today,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “I am proud of her play as she had her first top-five and now has two top-10s in her first three collegiate events.”
The Lobos will return to action this week with the NB3 Matchplay Championship at Twin Warriors Golf Club on the Santa Ana Pueblo. The four-school event, featuring the men’s and women’s teams from New Mexico, New Mexico State, Stanford and Texas will be broadcast live on Golf Channel on Tuesday and Wednesday.
