Garcia’s Record-Setting Round Highlights Round Two of Ron Moore Intercollegiate
HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. – The New Mexico women’s golf team continued play Saturday at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate with the second round at the University of Denver Golf Course at Highlands Ranch. The Lobos shot 7-over during the Saturday’s round to remain in 12th place at 13-over.
Kansas State holds the 36-hole lead at the event with a 12-under total, two shots ahead of UNLV. Colorado State (6-under), host Denver (2-under) and San Diego State (1-under) are the only other teams in red numbers after two rounds.
Maria Garcia led the Lobos on Saturday, shooting a 5-under bogey-free round of 67, the lowest round ever by a UNM freshman and tied for the fourth-lowest round overall in program history. She will enter the final round in eighth place at 4-under for the tournament. Chelsea Truong shot 3-over during the second round, Maria Caparros Levin shot 4-over, while Annie Saechueng shot 5-over and Rebecca Galasso rounded out the lineup by shooting 9-over.
“What a day for Maria,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “She was super confident and to go bogey-free was really impressive.”
The tournament will conclude Sunday at the University of Denver Golf Course at Highlands Ranch.
