LUBBOCK, Texas – The New Mexico women’s golf team had a strong first day of the 2024 Red Raider Invitational on Tuesday as the Lobos played the first and second rounds at the Rawls Golf Course. UNM shot 2-over during the opening 36 holes to be tied for third place with one round to play.

Host Texas Tech holds the 36-hole lead at 5-under, followed by UNLV at 2-under. New Mexico is tied with BYU for third at 2-over, while Kent State (3-over) rounds out the top five. The Lobos shot 3-under in the morning to hold the 18-hole lead before shooting 5-over in the afternoon.

Maria Caparros Levin is tied for the individual lead after two rounds, shooting rounds of 69 and 70 to be at 5-under for the tournament. Annie Saechueng is at even par after rounds of 71 and 73. Maria Garcia is at 2-over through two rounds, while Lisa-Marie Pagliano is at 5-over. Ciara Rushmer rounds out the lineup at 16-over, while Rebecca Galasso, playing as an individual, is at 9-over.

“The wind played a lot of trick on us today,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “It was up and down all day, so we had to do a lot of thinking. The team held tough and finished toward the top. Maria Caparros Levin had a great day. She lost it a little bit on her second nine of the first round, but finished up birdie-birdie to shoot a great 69. We will do this together tomorrow.”

The tournament will conclude Wednesday with the final round at the Rawls Golf Course on the Texas Tech campus.
