Nico Acevedo Named Men’s Tennis Asst. Coach
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New head men’s tennis coach Rob Bareford has announced that Nicholas “Nico” Acevedo has joined the program as assistant coach. Acevedo comes to UNM after a stellar collegiate career, playing for both FAU and Wichita State.
As a player, Acevedo was ranked No. 32 nationally in doubles while at FAU for his senior season. In singles, he reached a high-water mark of 109 as a member of the Wichita State Shockers, where he played from 2020-22.
A skilled doubles player in college, Acevedo won an ITF 25K doubles title in 2021, and he won the ITA Southeast Regional doubles title in 2022, earning a spot in the ITA National Doubles Tournament, advancing to the Round of 16.
“I am so excited to add Nico to our coaching staff,” said Bareford. “He brings a very high-level playing experience and knowledge of the game. He will be involved in all aspects of the program and help take us to new heights.”
His current UTR is 12.94, and it’s been as high as 13.32 overall.
