Presley Devey Selected MW Offensive Player of the Week

by Allison Weiss

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Following a week in which she scored two game-winning goals and contributed on three of the four goals scored by New Mexico, junior forward Presley Devey has been named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week.

Monday’s selection marks the first career weekly conference honor for Devey.

Devey led the Lobos with two goals and an assist on the week for a team-best five points, including one goal and one assist in the win against Oregon on Sunday. Her assist on Alysa Whelchel’s goal in the 6th minute to open the scoring was her first career assist, and combined with her own goal in the 10th minute, her three points in the match set a career high.

Sunday was Devey’s second game-winner on the week, as the Lobo scored the only goal of the match on Thursday against UC Riverside in the 11th minute.

Of note, her two goals in the first three matches of the season ties her career best in any of her three seasons (scored two goals last year), and her five points already surpassing her career best in points.

Devey started both matches and played a combined 92 minutes, including a career-high 55 minutes in Thursday’s match against UCR.

To date, she leads the Lobos in points (five), goals (two) and shots on goal (four), is tied for second in assists (one) and second in shots (seven).
