Soccer Homestand Starts Against Highlanders on Thursday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The Lobos open their 2024 home schedule and begin a five-match homestand on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. against UC Riverside.

UNM enters the contest 0-1-0, while the Highlanders are 0-2-0 following losses to Idaho (3-0) and at UCLA (3-0) in the opening week. UC Riverside has taken seven shots, four on goal, with three of the shots taken by Macie Baird and two shots on goal by Mimi Dominguez to lead the team. In the net, Allee Grashoff has faced 17 shots on goal and made 11 saves, with opponents taking a total of 41 shots.

Thursday’s match will be the fourth meeting all-time between the two programs with the last occurring Sept. 11, 2022, a 2-2 draw in Riverside. The last time the two teams met in Albuquerque was Sept. 18, 2011, a 2-1 Lobo win, with UNM 2-0-1 in the series. UNM has outscored UCR 5-3 with two one-goal matches.

LAST TIME OUT
The Lobos dropped their season opener 3-1 at New Mexico State with Natalie DeGagne scoring the first Lobo goal of the season in the 28th minute on an assist from Alysa Whelchel and Sophia Roberts. It was the first career assist (and point) for Whelchel, the third for Roberts and the eighth career goal for DeGagne.

SETTLE IN AND STAY A WHILE
UNM begins a five-match homestand on Thursday, the longest period at home of the season. The five matches comprise half of UNM’s total home matches this season.

UNM is 4-4-1 in home openers and 44-21-11 at home under Coach Heather Dyche.
