UNM Head Baseball Coach Tod Brown Agrees to Contract Extension Through 2029
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico and Head Baseball Coach Tod Brown have agreed to a contract extension through 2029, UNM Vice President/Director of Athletics Eddie Nuñez announced Wednesday.
“We’re excited to have Coach Brown continuing to lead our program and build upon the improvement we’ve seen the last three seasons,” Nuñez said. “Tod and his staff have placed an emphasis on elevating the program academically and within the community while giving our student-athletes the ability to compete for championships.”
The Lobos have improved their win percentage both in and out of conference play in the last two seasons under Brown’s leadership, most recently wrapping up the 2024 season with the most wins (28), most MW wins (17) and best MW finish (2nd) since 2017 to punch their ticket to the conference tournament for the first time since that season. The last time UNM increased its winning percentage over three consecutive seasons was 2012-2014 under legendary Coach Ray Birmingham.
Jake Holland was named MW Co-Player of the Year and ABCA All-Region Second Team following the 2024 season, with four Lobos making the All-MW team (most since 2017) and UNM taking home eight MW weekly awards (most since 2013).
UNM Baseball has also excelled academically under Brown – two teams Brown has coached (2022, 2023) have earned the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award for their academic accomplishments, with a UNM player earning CSC Academic All-American honors following each of the last two seasons. The Lobo Baseball team posted a 3.32 GPA last semester, tied for the fifth-best in program history. The top six semesters by GPA in program history were all under Coach Brown.
