Jake Holland Named Second Team Academic All-American
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico’s Jake Holland picked up another impressive academic honor this morning when he was named a Second Team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators.
Holland, already an Academic All-District selection earlier last month, is the second Lobo in as many years to be named an Academic All-American after Dylan Ditzenberger made the cut following last season. He’s one of just 33 D-I players in the nation to recieve such an honor.
At the conclusion of the regular season, Holland shared Mountain West Player of the Year honors with Air Force’s Jay Thomason after posting the second-best batting average in the conference (.385) overall with a .417 average in conference games, leading the league in overall slugging (.801) and ranking second in RBI (59) and HR (16) to lead a Lobo lineup that finished the regular season as the MW statistical leaders in batting average, slugging, on base percentage, runs, hits, RBI, total bases and walks. The Lobos finished the year with the most wins (28) and their highest finish in the conference standings (2nd) since 2017, advancing to the MW Tournament for the first time since then.
After graduating this spring with a 4.135 weighted GPA over his two years in Albuquerque and a 4.061 over the last semester, Holland was named CSC Academic All-District and was selected to advance to the national ballot for potential Academic All-American status, to be voted on by CSC members.
