Jake Holland Named ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-Region
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico’s Jake Holland picked up another honor following a resurgent season for the Lobos on Tuesday, this time being named to the 2024 ABCA/Rawlings All-Central Region Second Team.
It’s the first All-Region honor for the senior, one of two catchers and 30 players in total from the Central Region to make the cut — he’s the first Lobo to be named All-Region since Kyler Castillo in 2021. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.
At the conclusion of the regular season, Holland shared Mountain West Player of the Year honors with Air Force’s Jay Thomason after posting the second-best batting average in the conference (.385) overall with a .417 average in conference games, leading the league in overall slugging (.801) and ranking second in RBI (59) and HR (16) to lead a Lobo lineup that finished the regular season as the MW statistical leaders in batting average, slugging, on base percentage, runs, hits, RBI, total bases and walks. The Lobos finished the year with the most wins (28) and their highest finish in the conference standings (2nd) since 2017, advancing to the MW Tournament for the first time since then.
After graduating this spring with a 4.135 weighted GPA over his two years in Albuquerque and a 4.061 over the last semester, Holland was named CSC Academic All-District last week and was selected to advance to the national ballot for potential Academic All-American status, to be voted on by CSC members – the full list of selections for first-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced July 2.
