Women’s Tennis Signs Maria Matsoukatidi of Greece
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Head women’s tennis coach Vicky Maes has announced the signing of Maria Matsoukatidi, a freshman from Greece, to the 2024-25 squad.
“We are very excited to welcome Maria to UNM. She is a remarkable young lady who is already extremely good on court but also incredibly hungry to improve,” said Maes. “She will fit seamlessly into our system and I predict she will make big strides her first year with the Lobos.”
Matsoukatidi, who hails from Soloniki, Greece, has extensive international experience, training and competing the majority of the past few years in Serbia. She will be the first freshman on the squad in a few seasons, as the team has brought in several transfers the past couple of years.
“I chose the University of New Mexico because it is a great place to grow and develop in all aspects, with many different events and interesting programs there. I really wanted to be a part of that. I loved the unique campus architecture and the welcoming atmosphere,” said Matsoukatidi.
She added, “And, of course, it was very important for me to be able to improve as a tennis player, and I think with the Lobos I have this opportunity. I’m very excited to bring everything I have to the program.”
