Dylan Chavez Added to Men’s Basketball Roster
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The University of New Mexico announced Tuesday the addition of Dylan Chavez to the roster. A 6-5 guard, Chavez is an incoming freshman who will join the program as a non-scholarship player.
A native of Albuquerque, Chavez comes to UNM after starring at La Cueva High School. He averaged 15.0 points and 4.3 assists per game last season, helping lead the Bears to the semifinals of the 2024 Class 5A State Championship. Chavez also played for the Albuquerque Basketball Club and played his junior season for ABC Prep, averaging 19 points, six rebounds, and five assists per game and was selected as a Grind Session all-star.
“We are excited about the addition of Dylan to our basketball program,” said head coach Richard Pitino. “We have always set out to recruit the best players in the state of New Mexico and in Dylan, we were able to keep a really good one at home. He will be a great addition to our program, both in the locker room and on the court.”
“I have been a Lobo fan my whole life, so this is a dream come true,” said Chavez. “It means so much to my family because they all went to UNM. My parents and grandparents have had season tickets for years, so I have so many memories of going to games. I can’t wait to make some more memories by getting to wear that uniform and play in The Pit with all of them supporting me.”
Chavez joins a freshman class that includes Kayde Dotson, Jovan Milicevic and Daniel Thomas, who signed National Letters of Intent with the Lobos over the past year.
