Lobo Basketball Signs Ibrahima Sacko
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico men’s basketball program announced Monday the addition of Ibrahima Sacko, a transfer forward from Georgia Tech. The 6-6, 225-pound native of Conakry, Guinea will have three years of eligibility with the Lobos after playing the last season with the Yellow Jackets.
Last season at Georgia Tech, Sacko appeared in 20 games, making three starts. He averaged 2.2 points and 2.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 47 percent from the floor. Sacko scored a career-high 13 points at Notre Dame on Feb. 14 and grabbed a career-high eight rebounds against UMass Lowell on Nov. 14.
“We are excited about the addition of Ibrahima to our program,” said head coach Richard Pitino. “He’s an elite defender and athlete that can guard multiple positions on the court. He’s versatile, multi positional and his future is very bright.”
“I chose New Mexico because the community really supports the basketball program” said Sacko. “Coach Pitino and the coaching staff really made me feel at home.”
Sacko came to Georgia Tech after playing high school basketball at the J. Addison School in Markham, Ont., where he was one of the highest rated recruits in Canada. He was invited to play for the World Team at the 2023 Nike Hoops Summit in Portland, Ore., but did not compete due to injury.
