Lobos in Fifth After Round Two of Mountain West Championship

CRESWELL, Ore. –– The No. 20 New Mexico men’s golf team continued play Saturday at the 2024 Mountain West Championship with the second round at the Emerald Valley Golf Club. The Lobos shot 2-under for the second straight day and are tied for fifth place at 4-under through 36 holes.

Colorado State is the 36-hole leader at 10-under, six shots ahead of the Lobos. San Diego State and San Jose State are tied for second at 8-under and Utah State is fourth at 6-under. New Mexico is tied with Fresno State at 4-under.

Matthew Watkins shot the low round of the day for New Mexico, carding a 2-under 70 on Saturday. He is T-11th on the individual leaderboard at 2-under for the event. Carson Herron remains in the top 10 individually, shooting a 71 on Saturday to sit T-7th at 3-under overall. Albert Boneta shot even par for the second straight round while Bastien Amat shot a 1-over 73 in the second round. Connor Adams rounded out the lineup with a 77 on Saturday.

“Watkins and Herron are playing solid golf and are keeping us within striking distance,” said head coach Jake Harrington. “Tomorrow we need to play the par-5s better and we need all five guys to play like they are capable of playing and we will see what happens.”

The Mountain West Championship concludes Sunday at Emerald Valley Golf Club.
