Recoura Named MW Freshman of the Week for Second Time
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Nicolas Recoura has been honored by the league for the second time this season as the Mountain West Freshman of the Week. It marked the fourth time that a Lobo rookie has earned the honor. Recoura went 3-0 on the week as the Lobos defeated both Air Force (7-0) and New Mexico State (4-0) on Saturday.
Recoura’s two awards pair nicely with teammate Avery Tallakson’s two honors, giving UNM a league-best four. Nevada players have won the award three times, and Air Force freshmen have done it twice.
Recoura won both of his doubles matches on Saturday giving the Lobos the first half of the doubles point in both matches, winning against Air Force 6-3 and then 6-1 against New Mexico State. Against the Aggies, he hopped into the singles lineup and slotted in at No. 5, winning 6-4, 6-4 over Luca Fe D’Ostiani.
The Lobos host Boise State on Saturday at noon at McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium with a shot at a conference title on the line. There will be a pre-match tailgate at 11 am just outside the McKinnon gates.
