PHOENIX, Ariz. –– The No. 19 New Mexico men’s golf team began play Friday at the ASU Thunderbird Collegiate with the first two rounds at the Papago Golf Course. The Lobos shot 1-over during the opening 36 holes to finish the day in 11th place amongst an elite field.
The Lobos shot 5-under in the morning’s first round before shooting 6-over during the second round in the afternoon. Host Arizona State leads the event at 23-under, followed by Arizona at 10-under and UCLA and Houston tied for third at 6-under.
Bastien Amat led the Lobos on the Friday, shooting rounds of 66 and 72 to finish the day T-7th at 4-under. Matthew Watkins is at even par for the tournament after posting rounds of 70 and 72 on Friday. Connor Adams is at 2-over, while Carson Herron is at 7-over and Albert Boneta is at 8-over.
The ASU Thunderbird Collegiate will conclude on Saturday at the Papago Golf Course.
