The Guiding Principles of Lobo Football: Family: First, Last, Always

Family:  First, Last, Always.  You hear family a lot in sports, but how many programs live it?  Lobo Football does.  In the hierarchy of The Guiding Principles of Lobo Football, “Family: First, Last, Always” is listed above every other principle. None of the others really work if your program isn’t a family.  When Bronco Mendenhall was named as the head coach, he had his introductory press conference and immediately went back to the office and the phones.  He had a staff in place in about 24 hours.  Why?

Because when those coaches were called, they knew that it wasn’t just a job … it was a family they were rejoining.  Every coach at UNM has either played for or coached under Mendenhall. They jumped at the chance to rejoin him on his staff and to move their families to Albuquerque.  Because the family is the centerpiece of it all.

Assistant coach Nick Howell talks about the guiding principle of “Family: First, Last, Always”, its importance to Lobo Football and how it has shaped him as a father, husband and a coach.

Max Lantzsch is from Germany and Mihalis Santorineos is from California by way of Greece. Though from different parts of the world, a bond of family that strted as roommates has grown into so much more. Family: First, Last, Always.
