Lobos Head to Reno to Face Wolf Pack

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The Lobos return to the field and Mountain West play in a three-game series at Nevada starting on Thursday afternoon. Due to projected weather in the area, the schedule has been adjusted for a doubleheader on Thursday and a game on Friday.

All three games will be streamed on the Mountain West Network with live stats available.

UNM enters the series 10-27, 2-4 in the Mountain West, while Nevada is 27-7, 5-1 in the Mountain West and is 4-1 at home.

Historically, UNM is 9-23 all-time against Nevada, but 3-2 in the last five games and won the series in Albuquerque last year, the first time winning the series since 2015.

MARCH MOMENTUM
In the month of March, the Lobos have held an opponent below two runs four times, three times to one run, and are 4-0 when an opponent scores less than two runs. The Lobos have scored five or more runs in four of the wins and are 2-0 when scoring six runs. UNM is also 4-0 in one-run games and 2-0 in extra-inning games.

The pitching staff has lowered their ERA from February to March from 5.92 to 5.41, and through 19 games in March has allowed 22 less runs, 21 fewer hits and 20 fewer walks than in February (18 games). Opponents are hitting .284 in March compared to .327 in February.

In the field, the Lobos have improved their fielding percentage from .951 to .970 and have decreased their errors from 23 in February to 15 in March.

UNM has improved its home run total from February to March (four to nine), increased its batting average (.255 from .252), increased its total bases (170 from 145) and its slugging percentage (.352 from .326).

Of Rachael Hathoot’s 45 hits this season, 28 have come in March, with the Lobo hitting .452 with a .581 slugging percentage and a .493 on-base percentage. Keyannah Chavez has hit three home runs this month and has improved her RBI production from February from five to 11. Chavez’s slugging percentage is at .694 this month. Chloe Yeatts has improved her hitting in March with a .281 batting average with 16 hits, 13 RBI and 25 total bases.

McKenna Guest has improved her ERA from February to March from 5.70 (13 appearances, 10 starts, 46.2 innings) to 3.10 in March (14 appearances, eight starts, four complete games, 61.0 innings) and has allowed 12 fewer hits and 12 fewer runs.

During the month, Hathoot has had nine multiple-hit games, Chavez has had six, Yeatts has had four and five different Lobos have had one. In addition, Chavez and Yeatts have had three games with multiple RBI, DeNae Vasquez-Dickson has had two and three different players have had one.

Hathoot enters the weekend on a 16-game hitting streak and Sydney Carithers has a five-game streak of reaching base.

ABOUT NEVADA
Nevada enters the series 27-7 after sweeping Saint Mary’s in a midweek doubleheader.  The Wolf Pack are led at the plate by Gabby Herrera and Chelie Senini, who are tied for the team lead in hits at 48. Taryn Jenkins leads with 47 RBI and 11 home runs, one of three players on the team with double-digit home runs (Herrera and Haley Painter each have 10). As a team, Nevada has hit 46 home runs with eight different players hitting at least one.

The Wolf Pack lead the MW in stolen bases, going 89-102 with four players tallying double-digit stolen bases: Senini 25-29, Jenkins 15-16m Bridgette Gilliano 13-15 and Aaliyah Jenkins 12-12. Conversely, opponents are 24-25 in attempts.
