by Steve Kirkland

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico men’s basketball team is headed to Memphis for the opening weekend of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The Lobos, who earned the Mountain West’s automatic berth as conference champion, are the No. 11 seed in the West Region and will play No. 6 seed Clemson in a first round game on Friday at FedEx Forum.

Game times and TV network designations for the first round will be announced later this evening.

The Lobos (26-9) enter the NCAA Tournament after becoming the first team in Mountain West history to win four games in four days to capture the conference tournament. New Mexico entered the tournament as the No. 6 seed and topped Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State and San Diego State in a span of 70 hours in Las Vegas to win its fifth Mountain West title. Jaelen House was named Tournament MVP, while Jamal Mashburn, Jr. and JT Toppin were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

New Mexico is making its 16th NCAA Tournament appearance, its first since 2014. The Lobos have eight all-time tournament victories, the last coming in 2012 when they defeated Long Beach State in the round of 64 before falling to Louisville.

Clemson (21-11) went 11-9 in the ACC this season and is coming off a loss to Boston College in the second round of the ACC Tournament.

It will be the first ever meeting between the Lobos and Clemson.
