Tech Downs Men's Tennis 6-1
LUBBOCK, Texas — New Mexico’s men’s tennis team hadn’t lost back-to-back matches all year, and also hadn’t lost by more than 4-3 all year. Now, after falling 6-1 to Texas Tech, neither of those are true, but UNM will get a chance to wash all of that bad taste out of their mouths as the biggest opponent to date comes to McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium on Sunday in the form of the No. 38 Denver Pioneers.
That match will see UNM look to do what no one has done, and that’s beat the 12-0 Pioneers. It will also be a chance to UNM to revive a few streaks.
UNM lost the doubles point and then five of six singles matches. Included in that was a 7-5, 6-4 loss by No. 93 Arda Azkara to No. 117 Olle Wallin. It marked the first dual loss of the sesoan for Azkara, and it droppd him to 3-1 vs. ranked foes.
UNM’s lone point came in a wild match by Georgio Samaha, who won 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (7-3).
Sunday’s match is the back end of doubleheader with the women’s team. The women play New Mexico State at 10 am with UNM and Denver to follow.
