Lobos Finishes Ninth at Southern Highlands Collegiate

LAS VEGAS, Nev. –– The No. 17 New Mexico men’s golf team concluded play Tuesday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate with the final round at Southern Highlands Golf Club. The Lobos shot 1-over during the third round to move up to ninth place at 12-over amongst an elite field that includes 10 top-30 teams.

Oklahoma won the title with a score of 8-under, three shots ahead of Auburn at 5-under. Those were the only two teams to finish under par, as Texas was third at 2-over, Florida was fourth at 4-over and Illinois was fifth at 5-over.

Albert Boneta completed a top-10 individual finish with a final round 2-under 70 to finish in eighth place at 3-under. Matthew Watkins also shot in red numbers on Tuesday, carding a 1-under 71. Bastien Amat shot even par 72 in the final round while Carson Herron and Alvaro Portillo each shot 76 in the final round to round out the lineup.

“I am proud of the way the team bounced back today,” said head coach Jake Harrington. “It was good to see Boneta have a solid week and finish with a top 10. We still have a lot of work to do before this weekend, but proud of way we fought today.”

The Lobos will return to action next week at the Lamkin Invitational in San Diego, where they are the defending champion. The tournament will be Monday-Tuesday at the San Diego Country Club.
