Lobos In 12th After Second Round of Southern Highlands Collegiate
LAS VEGAS, Nev. –– The No. 17 New Mexico men’s golf team continued play Monday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate with the second round at Southern Highlands Golf Club. The Lobos shot 13-over during the second round to finish the day in 12th place at 11-over amongst an elite field that includes 10 top-30 teams.
Oklahoma is the only team in the event under par and holds the 36-hole lead at 1-under. North Carolina is in second place at 2-over, while Florida and Texas are tied for third at 3-over.
“The combination of a really hard championship golf course and wind blowing 20-30 mph got the best of us today,” said head coach Jake Harrington. “Golf is a tough game and we didn’t have our best stuff today. Today’s round is over. We will learn from it and it will make us a stronger team because of the struggles from today. I am looking forward to watching this team respond with a great round tomorrow.”
Albert Boneta and Bastien Amat led the Lobos on Monday, each shooting a 2-over round of 74. Boneta is the highest Lobo on the individual leaderboard, T-11th at 1-under through two rounds, Alvaro Portillo shot a 76 on Monday, while Carson Herron shot 77 and Matthew Watkins rounded out the lineup with a round of 78.
The Southern Highland Collegiate will conclude on Tuesday in suburban Las Vegas.
