LAS VEGAS, Nev. –– The No. 17 New Mexico men’s golf team began play Sunday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate with the first round at Southern Highlands Golf Club. The Lobos shot 2-under during the first round to finish the day in ninth place amongst an elite field that includes 10 top-30 teams.
Florida holds the first round lead at 10-under, two shots ahead of Illinois at 8-under. San Diego State, Texas A&M and Pepperdine are all tied for third at 6-under.
Albert Boneta led the Lobos on Sunday, shooting a 3-under 69 in the first round. Bastien Amat and Alvaro Portillo also shot in red numbers, each carding a 2-under round of 70. Matthew Watkins and Carson Herron each shot 77 to round out the UNM lineup.
The Southern Highland Collegiate will continue Monday and conclude on Tuesday in suburban Las Vegas.
