HOUSTON, Texas — The Lobos ended the Mountain West Championships with 417 points as the team scored 118 points on Saturday for its best day in the Mountain West Championships.  The Lobos finished in ninth place, but the team picked up the most points by the squad since the 2020 campaign.

The Lobos got some great closing performances, highlighted by Alice English finishing 11th in the platform dive, recording an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 240.35, meeting the A-standard.  English needed a big dive on her final one, her fifth, and she got it.  She hammered out a back 1 1/2 somersault 1 1/2 twist free, scoring a 52.5 to net her the A-Standard.

The Lobos had three scorers in the platform as Kristen Hepfer finished 15th and Abigail Bouravnev finished 18th as UNM scored 35 total points in the event.

Maya Clise had a big final day, coming in 11th in the 1650 free to score 16 points, and then she scored 12 points with a seventh-place finish in the B-Final of the 200-yard breaststroke.  Along with Clise in the 200 breaststroke, UNM also got points from Ola Tomaszek and Kiana Ragaas, who finished fourth and sixth in the C-Final, scoring five and three points.

Katy McCarter also added four points with a fifth place C-Final showing in the 100 free, and UNM grabbed 40 points in the final event, the 400-free relay.

UNM’s diving squad will head to the ZONE championships March 11-13 in Flagstaff, Arizona.
