Noroozian Named Mountain West Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Aram Noroozian became the third Lobo to win Mountain West Player of the Week honors, earning it after helping UNM to a weekend sweep of Wichita State and UTSA, running the teams’ win streak to six straight.

Noroozian, who only played singles over the weekend, earned a pair of match-clinching singles victories as the Lobos claimed wins over Wichita State (4-3) and UTSA (5-2) on Friday and Saturday, respectively, in Wichita, Kansas.

In Friday’s match, he topped Wichita State’s Vanja Hodzic 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 2, rallying from a 5-3 deficit in the second set and fighting off two set points to clinch the team win.  Against UTSA on Saturday, he again earned the clinch with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Tomas Pinho at No. 3.

Noroozian joins Arda Azkara and Arthur Bellegy as Lobos who have been named Mountain West Player of the Week.  Additionally, both freshmen, Nicolas Recoura and Avery Tallakson have earned league Freshman of the Week honors.

UNM is off this week before traveling to Santa Clara on Sunday, March 3.
