Lobos Begin Road Trip at Boise State Wednesday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The Lobos begin a two-game road trip this week at Boise State on Wednesday, with tip set for 6:30 p.m.

UNM enters the game coming off of a bye on Saturday and has won its last two games and seven of its last nine to stand at 18-8, 9-4 in conference. The Broncos are 17-9 on the season, 8-5 in conference and had their four-game win streak snapped on Saturday at Nevada in overtime.

CONSISTENT CONTRIBUTORS
Aniyah Augmon has scored in double figures in 20 games, Nyah Wilson in 19 games, scoring 20 or more points in nine games, and Paula Reus in 14 games. Vianè Cumber has scored in double figures in 15 games with four games with 20-plus points and three double-doubles. Charlotte Kohl has scored in double figures six times and has four double-doubles on the season. UNM has four players averaging double figures led by Wilson (14.8 ppg), Augmon (13.0), Cumber (12.2 ppg) and Reus (11.1).

UNM is 12-2 when Reus scores in double figures, 15-5 when Augmon scores in double figures, 14-5 when Wilson scores in double figures, and 9-6 when Cumber scores in double figures.

Wilson has scored in double figures in 12 conference games and Augmon in all 12 that she’s played in, with Cumber in 10 and Reus in six. Four Lobos are averaging double figures in conference games led by Wilson at (17.8 ppg), Augmon (15.3 ppg), Cumber (12.4 ppg) and Reus (10.1 ppg).

60 is the magic number for the Lobos as UNM is 17-0 when scoring 60 or more points and 12-1 when allowing fewer than 60 points.

The Lobos are ranked 44th in the NCAA in rebounds per game (40.4), an improvement of 133 spots from last season in which the Lobos finished 177th in the NCAA in rebounds per game with 36.5. In addition, the Lobos have made an improvement in rebounding margin, finishing last season 246th at -2.0, compared to this season where the Lobos are currently ranked 116th with a +2.8 rebounding margin. UNM is ranked 10th in defensive rebounds per game at 30.1. Among MW teams, UNM is second in rebounds per game and leads in defensive rebounds per game. In conference games, UNM leads in defensive rebounds per game (30.7) and is third in rebounds per game (38.2).

UNM has five players with 100-plus rebounds with Paula Reus (146, 5.6 per game), Aniyah Augmon (143, 6.0 per game), Nyah Wilson (113, 4.3 per game) and Vianè Cumber (143, 6.2 per game) joining Charlotte Kohl (181 rebounds, 7.0 per game).

PAINT POINTS
UNM has outscored opponents in the paint in 21 games and by a 804-616 (+188) margin.

UNM has scored 47.8% of its points (804 of 1681) in the paint this season, averaging 30.9 points per game with 13 games scoring 50% or more of its total points in the paint. The Lobos had a season high of 50 paint points against Texas A&M-Commerce and scored 67.9% of their points in the paint in the Feb. 3 game against UNLV.

ALL ABOUT AUGMON
Beyond her ability to impact a game with steals, Aniyah Augmon has scored in double figures in a team-high 20 games this season, including the last 12.

In addition to steals per game, Augmon is ranked fifth in assists per game (3.9), 10th in scoring (13.0) and 14th in rebounds per game (6.0) in the MW. In MW games, she’s sixth in points per game (15.3) after scoring double figures in all 12 games, sixth in field-goal percentage (.444) and seventh in free throw percentage (.692), fourth in assists per game (4.0), first in steals per game (2.3) with a conference-best 28 steals and 12th in rebounds per game (6.2).

WILSON’S WORLD
Nyah Wilson has finished in double figures in 19 games, with 20 or more points in nine games, leading the Lobos in scoring in nine games.

Wilson has scored in double figures in 12 MW games and has registered multiple steals in five. She’s scored 20-plus points in four of the last seven games and led the team in scoring in five of the last seven games.

On the season, she’s scored a team-high 385 points (14.8 ppg) and is second in steals with 29. She is fifth in the MW in points per game and seventh in field goal percentage (.414), and fifth in free-throw percentage (.748). Wilson has made the second-most free throws (95) and taken the second-most free throws (127) amongst MW players. She is currently 71st in the NCAA in free throws and 67th in free throw attempts.

In conference play, Wilson is averaging 17.8 ppg and is fourth in the MW in scoring as well as fifth in field-goal percentage (.486). The Lobo junior is also tied for 10th in assists per game (2.5), tied for 12th in steals per game (1.3) and fifth in free-throw percentage (.731).

THE CUMBER EFFECT
Vianè Cumber has scored in double figures in 15 games this year with four games of 20-plus points, leading the Lobos in scoring six times. The Lobo junior has also registered three double-doubles this season, with 14 points and a career-high 14 rebounds against Eastern Illinois, 21 points and 11 rebounds against Utah State and 11 rebounds and 10 points at San Diego State.

 

Among one of the best three-point shooters in the conference, she has made three or more three-pointers nine times this season: two against Eastern Illinois and SJSU, three at Pepperdine, against Tarleton State and Fresno State, four in the season opener, five against No. 20 Gonzaga and Utah State, six against No. 25 UNLV and a career-best eight against Montana State.

On the season, she’s averaging 12.2 ppg and 6.2 rpg. Her 2.6 made three-pointers per game is second in the MW and her 34.7% from behind the arc is also second among MW players. In MW games, Cumber is averaging 12.4 ppg and a team-high 7.1 rpg with 2.4 made three-pointers a game.

She is 42nd in the NCAA in three-point attempts, 29th in three-pointers per game and 54th in three-pointers (59).

DEFENSE DELIVERS
Ten times this season the Lobos have held their opponents to single digits in a quarter, six times in the first quarter. In addition, UNM has held an opponent to 20 points or under in the first two quarters four times this season and in the final two quarters once.  The Lobos had consecutive games with CSU and SJSU last week, holding the Rams to four points in the fourth quarter and nine points in the third quarter.

UNM is also fourth in the NCAA in fouls per game, fouling an average of 12.7 times per game, the fewest in the MW. In addition, UNM is second in the MW in defensive field goal percentage in MW games with 37.5%, ranking 47th in the NCAA.

ABOUT BOISE STATE
The Broncos enter Wednesday’s game 17-9 on the season, 8-5 in conference and 11-2 in home games. Boise State has won four of its last five games, with its streak snapped in overtime at Nevada 68-65 on Saturday.

BSU is averaging 63.8 ppg on the year, led by 14.2 ppg from Natalie Pasco, who is also shooting 43.3% from the floor and 42.8% from three-point range with 68 three-pointers. Abby Muse leads with 9.0 rebounds per game and has 82 blocks and 32 steals on the year to lead the Broncos in all three categories.

As a team, Boise State is allowing 57.0 ppg, which leads the MW, and also leads in defensive field-goal percentage with opponents shooting 35.9% and in three-point field goal defense with opponents shooting 28.3%. The Broncos also have a +4.9 rebounding margin to rank second among conference teams and leads in blocked shots with 165 (6.4 per game). In conference, they are allowing 58.5 ppg and scoring 63.4 ppg, led by 14.8 ppg by Pasco. The Broncos are holding MW opponents to 36.8% and 27.8% behind the arc to lead the MW and are second in scoring defense.
