Bastien Amat Victorious at John Burns Intercollegiate
LIHUE, Hawaii –– New Mexico senior Bastien Amat recorded his second victory of the season, third of his career, after a strong final round lifted him to medalist honors at the John Burns Intercollegiate. Amat shot an 8-under 64 during Saturday’s final round at the Ocean Course at Hokuala to fnish at 13-under and post a five-shot victory.
The Lobos shot 7-under during the final round to move up to a third place finish at 10-under for the event. Arizona won the title at 20-under and Cal was the runner-up at 17-under. For New Mexico, it was the fourth straight top-three finish, which includes two team victories.
In the fall, Amat won the individual title at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in California. He has two victories and four top-five finishes in six events this season. His first career collegiate victory came last season at the Wolf Pack Classic in Nevada.
Matthew Watkins also shot in red figures on Saturday, posting a 3-under 69 to finish at 1-under. Carson Herron also finished at 1-under after shooting a final round 73. Alvaro Portillo shot 75 on Saturday and Albert Boneta rounded out the lineup with a final round 78.
The Lobos will return to action Feb. 25-27 with the Southern Highlands Invitational in Las Vegas.
