McDonald Shines on First Day of San Diego State Classic
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – The New Mexico women’s golf team began play Monday at the San Diego State Classic, with the opening two rounds at The Farms Golf Club. The Lobos shot 37-over during the opening 36 holes and are in ninth place at the event.
New Mexico shot 17-over in the first round before shooting 20-over in the second round to finish the day at 37-over. Virginia is the 36-hole leader at 7-over, while South Carolina (8-over), Oregon (14-over), Georgia (18-over) and Denver (22-over) round out the top five.
Myah McDonald had a strong opening day, shooting rounds of 69 and 72 to finish the day in fifth place at 3-under, one of just six players to finish the day under par. She will enter the final round two shots off the individual lead. Lauren Lehigh finished the day at 9-over, Annie Saechueng is at 16-over, Lisa-Marie Pagliano is at 17-over and Maria Caparros Levin rounded out the lineup at 21-over.
“Myah played steady and confident today,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “She got her putter going and made a lot of birdies.”
The San Diego State Classic will conclude Tuesday with the third round of play at The Farms.
