FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Alice English led UNM with a sixth place finish in the 1-meter dive on the opening day of the NAU Diving Invitational, held at on the Campus of Northern Arizona. The invitational continues tomorrow with the 3-meter dive.
Overall, divers from UNM, Idaho, New Mexico State, San Diego State, and host NAU competed. English was the only Lobo to qualify for the finals, doing so in seventh place with a 266.25 over the first six dives. That moved her into the finals, where she scored a 267.85 to move up one slot into sixth, overtaking Summer Westmoreland of San Diego State as English scored a combined 534.10 to her 527.30.
NAU’s Grace Wesche won the event with a combined 578.00.
For UNM, Kristen Hepfer was two spots out of a finals appearance with a 208.80. Right behind her were teammates Zoe Rinon at 194.15 and Abigail Bouravnev at 170.15.
English, Hepfer, and Bouravnev will compete in the 3-meter on Friday, with prelims starting at 10:30 am.
