Men’s Golf Opens Spring Schedule in Arizona for NIT

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico men’s golf team will begin its spring schedule this week when it travels to Arizona for the National Invitational Tournament. The event, hosted by Arizona at the 7,200-yard, par-72 OMNI Tucson National, will run Monday and Tuesday.

The first two rounds of the tournament will be played on Monday and the final round will be Tuesday. Live scoring will be available on SmartGolf.com.

The event consists of 18 teams, including 11 ranked in the top 60 of the national rankings. The Lobos are ranked No. 28 after the fall season, and are joined in Tucson by No. 6 Arizona State, host No. 16 Arizona, No. 25 Texas A&M, No. 35 Missouri, No. 36 SMU, No. 38 Loyola Marymount, No. 49 TCU, No. 51 Fresno State, No. 52 BYU and No.59 Stanford. Iowa State, New Mexico State, San Diego, Santa Clara, Saint Mary’s, West Virginia and Wyomming round out the field.

The Lobos will feature a lineup of Albert Boneta, Matthew Watkins, Carson Herron, Bastien Amat and Alvaro Portillo.

The Lobos are coming off a strong fall season that saw them win the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate on their home course and post a runner-up finish at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in California in the fall finale.
