Lobo Student-Athletes Turn in More Record GPAs

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Once again, the Lobo student-athletes turned in record-setting performances in the classroom for the fall, 2023 semester.  The Lobo female student-athletes recorded a non-COVID record 3.64 GPA, and the men had their second-best semester on record with a 3.21 GPA.  Overall Lobo student-athletes just missed a record, turning in a 3.40 GPA.  The previous high for a non-COVID semester was in the spring of 2023 when Lobo student-athletes recorded a 3.41 GPA.

The 3.40 marked the 31st straight semester that Lobo student-athletes turned in at least a 3.0 GPA, dating back to the fall of 2008.  Overall, 66 student-athletes recorded a 4.0 or better GPA and 290 recorded a 3.0 or better GPA.  Additionally, the 3.64 GPA for UNM’s female student-athletes marked the 27th straight semester with at least a 3.4 GPA and the ninth straight with a 3.5 GPA

The 3.21 GPA for UNM’s male student-athletes was the 23rd semester in the last 24 with at least a 3.0 GPA, and it was also the second-best non-COVID semester in department history behind only the 3.25 turned in last spring.

Nine programs turned in a top-five program GPA, with the men’s track program setting a program record with a 3.56 GPA, and softball setting a program record with a 3.59 GPA.  Additionally, baseball, football, men’s golf, women’s soccer, women’s golf, swimming and diving, and volleyball all recorded top-five GPAs.

The women’s golf team, which has earned five consecutive Academic National Championships, recorded the best departmental GPA with a 3.97 GPA.  The men’s golf team recorded a 3.72 to lead all men’s programs.
