Lobos Travel to Las Cruces Looking to Sweep Rio Grande Rivalry
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The New Mexico men’s basketball team looks to complete a season sweep of the Rio Grande Rivalry when it travels to Las Cruces Friday night to play New Mexico State. Game time at the Pan American Center is 7 p.m., and the game will air on CBS Sports Network and the Lobo Radio Network.
The Lobos won the first matchup of the season, 106-62, on Dec. 2 at The Pit, marking the second-largest margin of victory in the history of the series. Jaelen House led UNM with 28 points, including 26 in the first half, while Tru Washington added a career-high 21 points off the bench.
The Lobos are 9-1 on the season and enter the game on an eight-game win streak. Reigning Mountain West Player of the Week Donovan Dent is averaging 17.6 points and 6.7 assists per game to lead New Mexico. Three-time Mountain West Freshman of the Week JT Toppin ranks third nationally in field goal percentage at 73.0%.
New Mexico State is 5-6 on the season, including a perfect 5-0 record at the Pan American Center this season. The Aggies rallied in the second half to defeat Northern New Mexico 76-71 on Tuesday night to remain unbeaten at home. Femi Odukale leads NMSU, averaging 12.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
The Lobos return home to conclude the non-conference schedule with games against UC Irvine on Dec. 20 and Eastern New Mexico on Dec. 29. Tickets are on sale now at GoLobos.com/tickets.
