Lobos Conclude Homestand Wednesday Against UC Santa Barbara

by Steve Kirkland

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The New Mexico men’s basketball team caps a three-game homestand on Wednesday night as it hosts Big West preseason favorite UC Santa Barbara at The Pit. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network and on the Lobo Radio Network.

Tickets for the game are on sale now at GoLobos.com/tickets. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. (90 minutes prior to tipoff for all UNM men’s basketball home games this season). Fans are encouraged to arrive early to avoid lines while going through the security procedures upon entry to The Pit, and due to the construction on I-25 at the Avenida Cesar Chavez exit that has caused increased travel times in the area. With new traffic flow patterns in place, fans are encouraged to click here for a map detailing the best route to take for an efficient arrival to their designated parking lot.

The game is the Lobos’ annual toy drive night, where fans are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the game to donate. Fans who donate a toy will receive a discounted ticket for the game for as low as $10.

The Lobos are 7-1 this season and are riding a six-game win streak after a 106-62 victory over New Mexico State on Saturday night at The Pit. Jaelen House scored 28 points (26 in the first half) to lead UNM, while Tru Washington scored a career-high 21 points, en route to Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors. Donovan Dent had his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 assists.

UC Santa Barbara is 4-2 this season and has won four straight since preseason Big West Player of the Year Ajay Mitchell returned to the lineup. Mitchell is averaging 23.3 points per game this season, highlighted by a 30-point effort against Northern Arizona in the Gauchos’ last contest.

It will be the third all-time meeting between New Mexico and UC Santa Barbara, and the first matchup in the series in 65 years. The teams last met in 1958-59, a 79-73 Lobo victory at Johnson Gym. The Gauchos won the first ever meeting in 1948 in Santa Barbara.

The Lobos will travel this weekend to Las Vegas for the Jack Jones Classic in Henderson, Nev. New Mexico will play Santa Clara in the first game of the tripleheader at the Dollar Loan Center, where UNM won three games last month in the Ball Dawgs Classic. Game time Saturday is 2 p.m. PT (3 p.m. MT).
